National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

September 30, 2024

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, observed on September 30, is crucial for acknowledging the painful history and legacy of residential schools in Canada. This day serves as a reminder of the ongoing impacts of colonization on Indigenous communities and emphasizes the importance of truth-telling, healing, and reconciliation. It encourages individuals and organizations to engage in meaningful reflection, education, and action towards reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. In recognition of this day, we honor the survivors, their families, and the children who never returned home, fostering a collective commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable future for all Canadians.

Indigenous people are over-represented in new HIV infections in Canada. There were an estimated 15.2 new infections per 100,000 Indigenous people in Canada in 2020 compared with the estimated four new infections for every 100,000 Canadians in 2020.
